Composite Materials

The team’s purpose is the study of advanced materials, to decide which ones are suitable for every part of the car and proceed to the manufacturing. In general, the mainly used materials are carbon fiber, glass fiber and aramid, also known as kevlar, while copper mesh is used for grounding. The main goal of this team is to achieve the required mechanical properties in each component, choosing the right materials. Through thorough investigation and multiple tensile, bending and shear experiments the composite materials are tested and evaluated. Afterwards, using finite element analysis programs, several simulations are held under certain conditions in order to conclude in the final decision about the laminates.
